CLAYTON COUNTY — An Atlanta man is in the Clayton County Jail on multiple charges after being caught in a high-speed chase Saturday.
The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday morning that Dareies Antwan Roberts, 30, of Atlanta, had been arrested on multiple charges after police found he had several outstanding warrants — including violation of probation, two counts of interference with government property, fleeing, stalking, aggravated assault, home invasion and two counts of burglary. Other charges include reckless driving, fleeing and eluding, obstruction of an officer, possession of firearms by a convicted felon, marijuana possession and violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act.
According to Clayton County Jail records, Roberts had a total of 21 charges, as of Sunday.
According to Clayton County Court records, Roberts has a bond forfeiture hearing scheduled Oct. 29 in Clayton County Superior Court.
In a CCSO Nixle alert sent Sunday morning, the CCSO’s Elite BlackHawk Traffic Unit was on patrol Saturday on I-75 at the Clayton County line when they saw a Hyundai Kona recklessly driving at a high rate of speed.
Officers tried to make a traffic stoP but the driver failed to yield and sped away, initiating a pursuit, the CCSO said.
The pursuit continued north on I-75 and the suspect got onto I-20 eastbound. The driver exited onto Flat Shoals Road SE and crashed into the guard rail.
After the crash deployed the airbags, the suspect fled on foot, the CCSO said.
Officers were able to catch the suspect and deployed a Taser to secure him in handcuffs.
After being placed in the back of the patrol car, the suspect turned and kicked out the back window of the patrol car, the CCSO said.
After an officer ran the suspect’s name through Georgia Crime Information Center and National Crime Information Center, he had several warrants and was No. 7 on Clayton County Sheriff Levon Allen’s Most Wanted “HOT” List.
The suspect was also in possession of about 100 oxycodone pills, a half-pound of marijuana and a firearm, the CCSO’s Nixle alert read.
