Former Clayton State basketball player and current Major League Eating competitor Gideon Oji finished eighth in the 2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest held on the 4th of July at Coney Island, New York City.

Oji downed 33 hot dogs in 10 minutes, and early in the contest, he was in the top five.

Patrick Bertoletti won the competition by eating 58 hot dogs while Geoffrey Esper took second with 53 and James Webb third with 52.

Going into the competition, Oji — the tallest MLE competitor at 6 feet, 9 inches — was ranked sixth in the MLE rankings.

Oji played basketball at Clayton State from 2013 to 2015.
