Moreland Named McDonough Head Football Coach

Earthwind Moreland speaks during the 2023 Clayton County Football Media Day.

MCDONOUGH — After guiding the Mundy’s Mill Tigers to two winning seasons in 2022 and 2023, Earthwind Moreland was recently named the head coach for the McDonough Warhawks.

In 2023, Moreland led Mundy’s Mill to an 8-3 record — tied for most wins in school history. Highlights from the season included beating county rival Lovejoy for the first time since 2007 and going 6-0 for the first time in school history.

In 2022, Mundy’s Mill went 7-4.

Replacing Moreland at Mundy’s Mill is Eric Robinson, who was head coach at Paulding County in 2023. Last season, the Patriots went 2-8.

Robinson previously was at South Paulding in 2021 and 2022.

In 2021, Robinson replaced former head coach Jason Nash two games into the season.

At that point, the Spartans were 1-1 and the team went 7-2 under Robinson, including an appearance in the Class AAAAAA state tournament.

In 2022, South Paulding went 8-4 and made it second round of the state playoffs.

Moreland replaces Rodney Cofield, who led McDonough from 2021 to 2023. In three seasons, McDonough when 15-15 under Cofield — including going 6-4 in 2021, 4-6 in 2022 and 5-5 in 2023.
